How to install the jug rinser

Fit the spray valve to the basin, connect a 1/2" cold water line to the valve and a drain hose to the drain outlet, then seat the rinser in its housing or a counter cutout. No power is needed.

Before you start

Turn off the cold water supply you will connect to. Check your local plumbing code, as some areas require a licensed plumber and a backflow preventer on beverage equipment.

Tools you need

  • Adjustable wrench
  • PTFE thread tape (included)
  • 1/2" cold water supply line
  • Drain hose and hose clamp
  • Drill and hole saw or jigsaw
  • Bucket and towel

Choose a mounting option

Both options use the same water and drain connections.

Countertop

Countertop mount: the rinser sits on the counter in its housing, with hoses running down through a hole in the counter
Sits on the counter in its black housing. Drill one hole under the housing for the hoses: [HOSE HOLE SIZE].

Flush mount

Flush mount: the basin drops into a cutout so its lip rests on the counter, with hoses below
Drops into a cutout so the basin lip rests flat on the counter. The housing is not used.

Installation steps

  1. Step 1: Turn off the water

    Close the cold water supply you will connect to, then open a nearby tap to release the pressure.

  2. Step 2: Prepare the counter

    For a countertop mount, drill a hole under where the housing opening will sit. For a flush mount, cut the counter opening to [CUTOUT SIZE].

  3. Step 3: Tape the valve threads

    Wrap PTFE tape three to four turns around the valve threads, clockwise as you look at the thread end. This stops the tape unwinding as you tighten.

  4. Step 4: Fit the valve to the basin

    Push the valve up through the center hole of the basin. From below, fit the rubber washer and lock nut. Tighten by hand, then a quarter turn with a wrench. Do not overtighten.

  5. Step 5: Screw on the Black Star actuator

    Thread the actuator onto the top of the valve until it sits firmly. Hand tight is enough.

  6. Step 6: Connect the water supply

    Connect the 1/2" cold water line to the inlet under the valve, taping any threaded joints. Fit a shut-off valve on this line so you can service the rinser without turning off the whole building. [CONFIRM thread type: NPT or BSP]

  7. Step 7: Connect the drain

    Push the drain hose onto the drain outlet and secure it with a hose clamp. Run it to a floor drain or sink waste, sloping down the whole way with no loops or kinks.

  8. Step 8: Seat the rinser

    For a countertop mount, feed the hoses through the housing opening and the counter hole, then lower the basin into the housing. For a flush mount, lower the basin into the cutout so the lip sits flat. You can also make the connections from under the counter after seating.

Test your rinser

  1. Open the water supply slowly and check every joint for drips.
  2. Press a pitcher down on the actuator. Water should spray until you lift it.
  3. Check the basin drains fully between rinses.

Questions

Do I need a plumber?

Many owners install the rinser themselves. Check your local plumbing code first, as some areas require a licensed plumber for connections to the water supply.

Does the rinser need power?

No. It runs on water pressure alone.
